1. Your husband notices and is genuinely proud of you for taking a shower.
2. The above is true because when faced with the choice between nap and shower. Sleep wins. (But that's what baseball hats and wet wipes are for... right?)
3. Your husband is also very happy and grateful when he gets home and a frozen pizza is already in the oven. It means that you actually thought about dinner BEFORE he walked in the door. (Nevermind that he hasn't had a real, home-cooked meal since the people at church stopped dropping them off...)
4. Make-up and blow dryers are no longer daily necessities. They are now stowed away in the closet for special occasions.
5. One good thing about people stopping by to visit is that it forces you to actually clean/pick-up the house (including the random piles of burp cloths, diapers, and last week's mail.)
6. While topless beaches used to freak you out... you could now join those Europeans with no fear. I mean, the Girls are no longer sexual objects, but now serve two main purposes: pacify and feed. Plus the entire hospital and half the family have seen them, so what's a few strangers?
7. You get irritated and think, seriously baby? You're hungry AGAIN? (And then you feel bad when you realize it's been 3 hours. What just happened in those 3 hours? I swear it's been 3 minutes and I got nothing done.)
8. Sleep-overs at the family's house have become WAY less appealing. Because it means packing.
9. Your first 4-hour stretch of sleep feels like 10. And it's amazing.
10. Getting dressed is surprisingly easier than expected. Instead of debating over which cute new outfit to wear, the options have dwindled down to: what has easy access for feeding, is loose enough to hide my stomach, but normal enough so it doesn't say: Hi, I'm 12 weeks pregnant? The answer is... Nothing. I'll just stay at home in my underwear.
11. You cry or laugh more frequently while watching TV shows & commercials with moms and kids. You have a totally new understanding now.
12. Despite being extremely exhausted, somehow you are wide awake every 2-3 hours just to check and make sure he is still breathing. You read way too many tragic stories about SIDS. And you're paranoid.
13. You have so many new emotions associated with poop. Instead of disgust, you feel excitement! The 6th yellow seedy one of the day! Yipee! (aka: I'm doing such a great job feeding my baby and he is getting enough to eat and growing!)
14. Accomplishing things on your checklist mean SO much more! (Because babies know exactly when you are just starting to be productive and somehow become more clingy, needy and cranky. For example, this blog post was started on May 10 and it's now... June 18.)
15. You have no idea how people with children are on time, ever. Even if you think you're early... you forget that walking out the door is an instant trigger for spit up and poop.
16. Sometimes you secretly wish that men could lactate so you could just take ONE. day. off.
17. You've acquired a new super power. You can physically SEE germs. And they're everywhere. Especially in public places and on that creepy stranger's hands who is currently trying to touch your baby...
18. If there is a new product that guarantees to help your baby sleep better, you wouldn't think twice about spending this week's paycheck to buy it.
19. While you used to despise grocery shopping, you now look forward to the evenings when Husband will watch the baby so you can escape and wander the isles of Target for an hour. (But by the time you get to check-out, you already miss your baby and can't wait to get home and play.)
20. You can sit for an hour and just watch the baby sleep, adoring every facial expression and little movement. It never gets old.
21. The memory on your phone fills up every few days because you take so many pictures and videos of him. He just looks so precious and you want to capture him every second, from every angle. (Plus he will probably only wear this outfit once, so you might as well document it!)
22. Due to the above, pretty much every single Instagram photo is of your baby. Sorry, followers. He is the only interesting thing in my life right now.
23. You have a complete emotional breakdown when you even consider hiring a care taker so you can go back to work. It's a fact that no one can take care of your baby like you can.
24. You are in complete awe and amazement of all women who manage to successfully take care of both a newborn and another child... or a dog... or a plant (this is a specific example because I couldn't even keep my ONE rose plant alive. And I'm ashamed.)
25. You've discovered a new level of happiness you never knew existed. Like when that new baby was first snuggled in your arms. And then when he first made eye contact with you. He actually saw you and you felt it. And then when he smiled at you for the first time. Not just a milk drunk, sleepy smile. A happy, chunky, baby smile. In these moments, you realized that nothing in life could ever be better than being a mom.
